Improvements in industrial mineral and materials processing can take place through tailor-made reagent chemistry, optimal circuit design and advanced modeling and control. The current R&D effort is directed at three broad areas, namely, design and selection of more efficient reagents/additives/performance chemicals for better process chemistry, engineering optimization of unit operations based on rigorous mathematical modeling and simulation techniques, and viable waste management strategies for process industries. Industries of interest include minerals, iron & steel, copper, lead, zinc & aluminium, paints, ceramics, cement, speciality chemicals, and pulp & paper.
